Recommended Resorts

Our advice is based on 20 years selling property in the Alps and countless winter and summer visits. We sell property in the best ski and dual season resorts and are continually searching for new resorts to offer to discerning clients. The Alps still offers good value and there are many beautiful villages which offer good skiing and traditional ambience as well as fantastic summer retreats. The Alps is one of the few places in the world where you can have two completely different holidays depending on the time of year you visit; and also two high seasons if you want to rent your property. Here are some of our other personal favourites:

Property prices in the Alps have hardly been affected by recent events in the world markets. The ski property market is probably one of the most resilient as there is no over supply of new property in the Alps. Switzerland in particular has always been regarded as a particularly safe investment - when the financial markets look volatile then gold and the Swiss franc are traditionally safe havens.

Val d'Anniviers - St Luc
There are some undiscovered gems in this valley just over 2 hours drive from Geneva. The sunniest of them is St Luc at an altitude of 1600m with skiing up to 3,100m accessed directly from the village. This is a very attractive traditional village some centuries old. We are marketing the "Chalets sur la Piste" which as the name suggests is a fabulous development of detached chalets on the ski piste at 1750m. The chalets are ski in, ski out and just ten minutes walk from the centre of the village and have stunning views.

Best access to a huge ski area

Les Collons and Veysonnaz
At the end of the four valleys Verbier ski area in the French speaking part of Switzerland under 2 hours from Geneva and just 25 minutes from Sion. These resorts are much less expensive than Verbier but have direct access to the massive Verbier ski region which offers over 400 km of skiing! Les Collons is at 1800m East and South facing with panoramic views to the Matterhorn and Veysonnaz is an old village at 1400m. In Veysonnaz the Chalet Ski Paradise is just 150m from the new telecabine and will have a fabulous "wellness" with sauna and jacuzzi. The spacious two and three bedroom apartments will have great views and will be built to a very high standard in traditional style. Veysonnaz is also part of the Verbier ski area and there we are marketing the chalet Ski Paradise which is just 150m from the new telecabine.

Villars
A personal favourite - one of the most attractive, most easily accessible, dual season resorts in the Alps. Only 90 minutes from Geneva airport, and with excellent train connections, it is easy to visit for a long weekend. Villars has benefited from massive investment in recent years including three new high speed 4-man and 6-man chair-lifts, and two new 125-man cable cars on the glacier of Les Diablerets (accessible by skis from Villars) and snow making machines. An excellent resort for children and non-skiers and a perfect choice for a "second home" or even for retirement. Villars is an all year round resort, with a golf course, swimming pool, tennis courts and all the summer and winter facilities you would expect and some beautiful alpine villages nearby such as Gryon. The resort is up-market, a well-kept secret, a pleasure to visit at any time of the year. We have been working in Villars for 20 years and sell more property here than in any other resort. Saas Fee
A high altitude traditional traffic-free village in a dramatic setting surrounded by glaciers and oozing Swiss charm. Set at 1800m and with most of the skiing between 2,500 and 3,500m snow is guaranteed and most national ski teams train on the glacier ski area. Fast cable cars and an underground funicular whisk you up from the resort to 3,500m. Wonderful atmosphere and good night life too. One of the most scenic resorts in Switzerland with all the usual summer facilities, and the glacier is open for skiing all year except May and June. Our star buys are:

Sales in Austria have increased steadily over the past couple of years and with its charming villages, great skiing, and fantastic summers it is easy to see why. Austria is a stunningly beautiful country and offers the best value for money in the Alps, it is possible to have a 3 bedroom chalet built to order from as little as 169,000 euros

The Gastein Valley
Just over 1 hour from Salzburg airport is the Gastein Valley with over 200km of skiing and fantastic scenery. Located at the foot of the Hohentauern National Park The Gastein Valley is made up of the towns Bad Gastein, Bad Hofgastein and Dorfgastein. Bad Gastein was once visited by Kings and the rich and famous for its healing spa qualities and is much more than a ski resort. It has an amazing waterfall plunging through the centre and some splendid buildings from the Belle Ã?poque; the town was in its hey day in the 50's and 60's and is now on the up again. There has been massive financial investment in Bad Gastein in the last year or two: a Swedish group has invested millions of euros refurbishing one hotel and a new cool restaurant and an Italian hotel group is creating a "boutique" style hotel. A Danish property developer is building some fabulous new apartments above the waterfall and a developer from Vienna is building 14 luxurious chalets each with a lift and an indoor swimming pool. This resort has magical charm and is one of our favourites - arrange a visit and see why.
The towns have direct access via train from Salzburg so there is no need to even hire a car. Apart from great skiing the valley is also famous for its natural thermal waters so there are some fantastic family-friendly spas in Bad Gastein and Bad Hofgastein with amazing indoor/outdoor pools, fun pools with slides for the children, relaxation areas, saunas and beauty treatment rooms. Bad Hofgastein offers plenty of shops, and restaurants in the pedestrianised centre of the village as well as open air ice skating in the winter. There is also a superb 18-hole golf course in the valley with the breathtaking backdrop of the mountains! We have several fantastic developments here:

Saalbach / Hinterglemm
Saalbach is just 90 mins from Salzburg airport and the Saalbach / Hinterglemm Ski Circus is Austria's largest connecting ski resort network offering over 200km of well groomed pistes. The great thing about the ski circus is that you can ski in a big circle all over one side of the valley and then over the other side. Saalbach is a great resort for those who like to party, there is plenty of music and fun to be had! We have just released some fantastic apartments here called the Castel Alpin Apartments which you can ski back to at the end of the day. As the apartments are located just outside Saalbach in the charming little farming village of Viehhofen, you can ski and party in Saalbach all day and then go home for a well earned rest... Viehhofen is also only 15mins from Zell and See and Kaprun so you also have easy access to a further 100km of piste.

Stadl & Hohentauern
Stadl is a traditional Austrian village located just over 90 mins from Salzburg airport; this region is primarily known for its many lakes as well as the majestic Hohe Tauern mountain range. With skiing between 1700 and 2200m it boasts snow sure skiing yet also benefits from over 200 days sunshine a year, making it a truly dual season resort. This beautiful regin is perfect for families looking for a tranquil retreat with charming gasthofs serving great food amongst beautiful scenery. This is the location of the Almdorf Kreischberg Chalets which were our best selling chalets in Austria last summer. Hohentauern is under 2 hours from Salzburg airport and is a fantastic summertime retreat set in a very natural location; there is only a small amount of skiing here but the location is very tranquil and typically Austrian, this is fantastic for people looking for a bargain alpine retreat. St Martin & St Margarethen
St Martin & St Margarethen are pretty alpine farming villages and are just over 60 mins south of Salzburg airport and located in the heart of the Lungau ski region. These villages are full of traditional Austrian charm and offer a full range of activities for all the family ranging from skiing in the winter to swimming in the lakes and golf in the summer. The villages share a super 18-hole golf course within and the region is Austria's sunniest benefitting from over 200 days sunshine a year which is fantastic for summer hikes and cycling. From here you are also only 2 hours from Italy so the villages make a perfect central location within Europe to explore from. We have some fantastic chalets and apartments in these villages:
