FAQs


Can I buy in Switzerland as a foreigner?
 
Yes. You can only buy in touristic regions such as ski resorts however, as cities like Geneva and Zurich are off-limits to foreign buyers. There are restrictions within resorts about what you can buy, with most new properties and some resales only for sale to Swiss residents and permit holders.
 
Can I buy in Austria as a non-EU citizen?
 
While there are a small number of exceptions, unfortunately it is almost impossible to buy in Austria as a non-EU citizen.
 
Are there any restrictions to buying in France?
 
No. You can buy anything in France no matter what your nationality.
 
Can I get a mortgage as a foreigner?
 
France, Switzerland and Austria all offer mortgages to foreign buyers, however the latter two do have some restrictions. In Austria you have to be an EU citizen and Swiss banks can be quite selective about which nationalities they will lend to. Is the Swiss Franc a strong currency? 
 
Yes, the Swiss Franc is one of the strongest currencies in Europe and, according to Forbes magazine, currently the 7th strongest currency in the world (correct as of Nov 2023). It is therefore an ideal place to invest in property.
