Choosing the right resort is not always easy without specialist knowledge of the Alps, so here are a few tips from our experts to help you make your decision. Our advice is based on 20 years selling property in the Alps and countless winter and summer visits. We sell property in the best ski and dual season resorts and are continually searching for new resorts to offer to discerning clients. The Alps still offers good value and there are many beautiful villages which offer good skiing and traditional ambience as well as fantastic summer retreats. The Alps is one of the few places in the world where you can have two completely different holidays depending on the time of year you visit; and also two high seasons if you want to rent your property. Hallstatt
Austrian Flag  Hallstatt, Upper Austria - Lakeside living with easy access to skiing
The villages of Hallstatt and Obertraun are located in the Austrian province of Upper Austria and lie on the banks of the Hallstatt Lake and have since 1997 been listed as a UNESCO World Heritage site famed for its beauty and cultural heritage. In winter the Krippenstein – Dachstein – Obertraun ski region offers a great choice for all abilities. Just 20 minutes' drive from here are the Dachstein-West Mountains which form upper Austria's largest ski area. In Summer this region offers a hiking paradise for nature lovers and there are numerous activities such as boating on the lake, scuba diving in the crystal clear waters (which are so clean they are drinking quality) and taking one of the many walking routes within the villages. Les Collons
Swiss Flag  Les Collons and Veysonnaz
In the French speaking part of Switzerland under 2 hours from Geneva and just 25 minutes from Sion, Les Collons and Veysonnaz are half the price of Verbier but have direct access to the massive Verbier ski region with 410 km of skiing. Les Collons is at 1800m and faces East and South with panoramic views to the Matterhorn. Veysonnaz is an old village at 1400m with a ski resort above with a new lift to access the Verbier area. One of the most attractive, most easily accessible, dual season resorts in the Alps. Just 90 minutes from Geneva airport, and with excellent train connections, it is easy to visit for a long weekend. Villars has benefited from massive investment in the lift system in recent years and is an all year round resort, with a golf course, swimming pool, tennis courts. Villars is an excellent resort for children and non-skiers and is a perfect choice for a "second home" or even for retirement. The resort is up-market, a well-kept secret, a pleasure to visit at any time of the year. A high altitude traditional traffic-free village in a dramatic setting surrounded by glaciers and oozing Swiss charm. Set at 1800m and with most of the skiing between 2,500 and 3,500m snow is guaranteed. Wonderful atmosphere and good night life too. Austrian Flag  Ischgl
Ischgl lies in the Paznaun valley just 90 minutes from Innsbruck, at an altitude of 1400m. This atmospheric compact resort dates back to the 10th Century and, dotted amongst the up market chalets and hotels you'll find cows spending their winter in original farming chalets. The centre of the village is pedestrianised and a walkway has been blasted through part of the mountain to provide visitors with easy access to the lifts, bars and shops. The resort is an intriguing mix of old-fashioned Kitzbühel luxury with many top-class hotels and St Anton-style après-ski with clubbing and shopping excess. Veysonnaz is a traditional family orientated resort in the "4 Valleys" ski area just 13 km from Sion and under 2 hrs from Geneva with beautiful views over the Rhone valley. It is part of the huge Verbier ski area with over 410km of pistes up to 3,330m offering the most challenging skiing in Switzerland. The Chalet Ski Heaven will be built on an open West facing plot on the main street of Veysonnaz near the restaurants, shops and bars and within easy walking distance of the ski lift and at the foot of the slopes. The Amara Residences are five classic contemporary style chalets to be built directly on the ski slopes around a beautiful Spa featuring a huge heated swimming pool. The spacious apartments have large south/south-west-facing balconies and the only underground car-park in Avoriaz. It is easily accessible being just 1 hour from Innsbruck Airport, or 90 minutes from Salzburg or Munich. Les Collons - Chalets du Rhone

Les Collons is part of the Verbier ski area with direct access on skis to 440km of pistes. The Chalets du Rhone and the Matterhorn Village are two developments of luxury chalets which are currently under construction. The Chalets du Rhone is a development of fifteen chalets to be built in three phases. The first phase of five chalets (shown above) has been built and finished. Construction of the second phase of five chalets started in summer 2009 and these are all sold. The third phase of this highly successful development has just been released for sale and construction will start in autumn 2011 for delivery at the latest for December 2012.
