La Plagne

Ski Chalets & Apartments for sale, France

Expert's Opinion

"A constellation of 11 mini-resorts, varying from the brutal to the beautiful, La Plagne is a resort with many facets as well as having some of the best skiing in the Alps, especially for intermediates. The other big bonus? Convenience. The high altitude villages have one of the highest proportions of ski in, ski out properties in the Alps." -Simon Malster

The Village

La Plagne is made up of eleven small 'mini-resort' villages, each with its own character and atmosphere. The small, rustic farming villages that sit on the edges of the ski area are cute, with more historic buildings than the purpose built resorts further up the mountain. Each mini-resort sits at a different altitude, with a range of modern and traditional buildings.

Belle Plagne and Plagne Centre are the two largest villages, and the main hubs of the ski area, it's here that you'll find the liveliest bars and the largest selection of restaurants. Belle Plagne is largely chalet style, and it's both prettier and a little quieter than Plagne Centre.

Purpose built Aime 2000 sits at a higher altitude than the two main villages, but is primarily modernist apartment blocks, while Plagne 1800 and Plagne Soleil are more traditional. Les Coches, just above Montchavin on the northern edge of the village, is a fairly recent addition to the resort and offers a similar style to the farming villages below.

The Skiing

The Paradiski Area is not as well connected as the Trois Vallees or the Espace Killy, but it does offer a huge amount of very varied skiing. Beginners and intermediates can enjoy the wide, gentle slopes, with the pistes ranging from high altitude snow sure glacier skiing to lower, tree lined runs. While some slopes can be busy, if you stay off the beaten track, you can find some lovely, perfectly groomed trails.

The lift network is undergoing constant improvements ensuring there are very few queues, and the nursery slopes are well positioned and acccessible. There is plenty to do in the immediate ski area, with more than enough to occupy even expert skiers, while Les Arcs is linked via cable car at Montchavin.

Experts can enjoy a number of steep black runs, couloirs, and extensive off-piste that includes tree skiing and huge untracked bowls. The best skiing for experts is away from the main runs, with the resort's popularity amongst intermediates and families meaning it gets less tracked out than resorts like Val d'Isere and Tignes.

Properties

The best properties on the market in La Plagne are the new built chalets and apartments. While there are a small number of resale properties on the market, they are largely smaller apartments built before the French property regulations changed. Larger resale properties are incredibly rare, and most of the four and five bedroom properties are new build.

Many of the new developments in La Plagne are in the lower altitude resorts, with fewer located in Plagne Centre and Plagne 1800 higher up the valley. Those that are located in the more snow sure villages have the benefit of being ski in, ski out, with great access to the slopes due to the purpose built convenience of the resort.
