"In many ways Montreux and the surrounding area is like a Swiss greatest hits, with terraced vineyards & hillside walks, a cosmopolitan city centre, the tranquility of the lake itself and the promise of skiing in the nearby resorts of Villars, Chamery and Verbier. Montreux offers the best of both worlds, a genuine dual-season resort town, buzzing with life in all seasons." - Simon Malster
Montreux is a Swiss lakeside resort with a history of tourism dating back to the 19th Century. Sitting between steep, rugged hillside and the shores of Lake Geneva, the town itself is characterised by Belle Époque architecture, Mediterranean trees and promenades lined with flowers.
Key sights include the Quai des Fleurs, which is a beautiful promenade running along the waterfront adorned with flowers and garden sculptures by local gardeners, Château de Chillon and the Freddie Mercury statue by the Covered Market, which symbolises the special relationship he had with this town. Queen: The Studio Experience at the Montreux Mountain Studios is a popular attraction and explains more about the link between this area and one of the most famous artists of the 20th Century.
The allure of this region is underpinned by the scenery and the outdoor pursuits on offer - both on water and on land - but the town itself boasts a colourful food and music scene, with an eclectic mix of cuisine on offer ranging from rustic local dishes to fine dining experiences. Home of the eponymous Jazz Festival, Montreux also has a number of popular music venues with regular performances.

Montreux is not a ski resort so you can't directly access any skiing from the town but it is a great jumping off point for some of Switzerland's most popular resorts.
Villars is just a 35 minute drive, Champery is about the same and it is possible to get to Verbier and Gstaad in under an hour. With Montreux train station sitting on the IR 15 express route, it is possible to travel round to any of the major resorts in the Valais with ease.
More than anything, a holiday home in Montreux gives you a choice of winter options and the chance to explore a variety of different ski resorts as you please.

The pride of the Swiss Riviera, Montreux is a hive of activity in the summer with plenty to do for families and couples of all ages.
Probably the most famous summer event is the Montreux Jazz Festival, which takes place in July and attracts some of the world's foremost musicians to the shores of Lake Geneva for a series of performaces.
Between Lausanne & Montreux are the UNESCO-listed vineyards terraces of Lavaux. These stunning vineyards are accessible via a network of hiking trails and small trains, offering a stunning region to explore on foot and some great wine-tasting days.
Cycling, mountain-biking, hiking and para-gliding are all on offer in the local region, while the lake offers countless watersports opportunities with paddleboards especially popular for a lazy, sunny afternoon on the water. The paddlesteamers which glide across the water, are a great way to take in the beauty of the area in comfort.

Generally speaking foreigners cannot buy a property in Swiss towns and cities unless they have a B or C permit. They are usually limited to touristic regions, such as ski resorts, if they wish to purchase without a permit. Montreux presents an exception to this rule as there are a number of properties on the market in this area that are available to foreign buyers without a permit.
In this area properties tend to come in two distinct styles; bright, central apartments in classic buildings & substantial, standalone lakehouses. We have a number advertised on our website and plenty more offline properties that could match your requirements. So do not hesitate to contact us.
