Spotlight On: Portes du Soleil

29 Mar, 2023 by Investors In Property

Whatever the month or time of year, the Portes du Soleil continuously proves to be the best year-round ski region with countless attractions. Covering an astounding 650km of terrain, the Portes du Soleil is one of the largest ski areas in the world and offers unbeatable skiing, a wide range of summer sports and near constant sunshine. As well as being a ‘gateway to the sun’, the area is a natural link between France and Switzerland and encompasses 12 resorts across the two countries, allowing skiers to sample both countries in just one day!

Here are our top 6 resorts within the Portes du Soleil

Champery

Just 1.5 hours away from Geneva airport lies the quintessentially Swiss village of Champery. The chocolate box architecture, narrow streets and beautifully wooded chalets transport you into a peaceful, dream-like town. As one of the quieter resorts in the Portes du Soleil, Champery is the ideal place to enjoy a tranquil and unspoilt atmosphere as well as traditional and cosy Swiss restaurants.

Champery is also home to one side of the famous Swiss Wall – also known as Le Pas de Chavanette. From here, if you dare, you can ski from Switzerland into France on the exhilarating 37-degree slope! The Swiss Wall attracts devoted skiers and risk-takers from all over the world to attempt this difficult but rewarding run.

New on the market is the spectacular five bed chalet Le Petit Mulet. This delightful family chalet benefits from a large land area of 982m² with exquisite views and a private garden. The chalet has been created with high-quality interiors and comes with spa facilities such as a sauna and hot tub.

Les Crosets

With a steeper altitude of 1670 metres is Les Crosets – a small and scenic village positioned above Champery. Regarded as a micro-resort, the proximity to the slopes ensures that most properties have the luxury of being ski in, ski out. Les Crosets truly is a skier’s heaven with a reliably high snowfall and easy access to its many off-piste slopes.

Owing to the quiet nature of the town, this village tends to be popular with families who appreciate serenity and are eager to teach their children how to ski. It’s a safe and reassuring place for young beginners.

We currently have a remarkable ski in, ski out hotel for sale in Les Crosets. The hotel is built on five levels and comes with a 6-bed duplex apartment as well as 23 en-suite rooms. For CHF 8,000,000, Mountain Lodge also provides an exceptional array of facilities such as: an indoor pool, spa, gym, cinema room, wine cellar, restaurant, bar and a ski rental shop.

Morgins

Surrounded by blissful meadows and enchanting forests, Morgins is another picturesque family-favourite village in Portes du Soleil. With a north facing position, skiing around the Follieuse area can guarantee excellent fresh powder days and shorter queues than other places nearby.

Like other villages in the area, Morgins caters just as well in the summer as it does in the winter. The turquoise lakes and adventurous trails provide a huge variety of sports ranging from paragliding and rafting to golfing and fishing.

A brand-new development is currently for sale just opposite the Morgins ski lift. The Portes du Soleil Residences offer 33 exceptional apartments with 1 – 4 bedrooms. The development provides a concierge, wellness areas including a swimming pool, restaurant and bar, and also offers full rental management.

Chatel

Heading over into the French side we have the delightfully traditional Chatel. Whilst known for its access to the 650km of slopes, Chatel is also famous for its working farms, gastronomical delicacies, and Savoyard charm. If you want to enjoy your ski trip whilst also getting a genuine feel of local French character, Chatel is the resort for you.

Fortunately, we have a few new developments on the market in Chatel offering both exceptional chalets and apartments with traditional style architecture. Built with stone and wood and striking cathedral ceilings is Le Panoramic – a development of 13 luxury apartments and one chalet.

Morzine

For more of a lively resort providing exciting après and nightlife, Morzine does not disappoint. As well as an excellent selection of restaurants, Morzine has plenty of bustling bars to keep the après going until the early hours of the morning! Morzine has a traditional French ambience from its old markets, bakeries and cafes and has more of a town feel rather than the village atmosphere of its neighbouring resorts.

Deservedly renowned for its summer mountain biking and hiking, Morzine has over 800km of trails ready to be explored. Like other resorts in the Portes du Soleil, water sports and other exhilarating activities are also on offer. As for the skiing, Morzine definitely does not fall short; whether you’re a beginner, intermediate or professional, there are beautiful tree-lined, white slopes tailored to all levels.

Les Terrasses des 5 Monts is an exciting new development in a more peaceful part of Morzine surrounded by captivating nature. All five apartments are bathed in stunning, natural sunlight from the prestigious south facing location and come with either three or four en-suite bedrooms.

Les Gets

Last but definitely not least is the delightful Les Gets, another well-loved family resort. Located just five minutes from Morzine, the two resorts share 120km of slopes to themselves and majestic scenery from every angle.

Despite being one of the lower altitude resorts in the Portes du Soleil, it marks highly in terms of year-round events with a plethora of sports available. One of the many highlights of Les Gets is the warm welcome given to children and anybody learning to ski. The village rightly prides itself on being extremely child-friendly with countless activities and groups such as wood-workshops for them to enjoy whilst family members are out discovering the slopes. Alternatively, there are many award-winning ski schools.

For a ski in, ski out chalet with traditional architecture and idyllic surroundings, we have Les Chalets du Mont Chéry. The project will be completed by the fourth quarter of 2024 and has a starting price of EUR 1,200,000.
