The Two High-Flying Resorts

29 Jan, 2025 by Investors In Property

Val d’lsere and Les Deux Alpes earn their titles as ‘high-flying’ resorts in more ways than one. Both boasting a resort altitude of over 1650m and peak altitudes of over 3500m, they certainly take the lead when it comes to exceptional heights - but that’s not all. Their ‘high-flying’ status also refers to the excellence the villages have to offer, high-end experiences, restaurants, events and properties. Although they do drastically differ in the budgets they cater for, whatever your price – one of these will be the one for you.

Val d’lsere and Les Deux Alpes have had some incredible new developments come up on the market recently and with the continuous village upgrades too, they are gaining a lot of popularity.

Val d’lsere

Possibly one of the most famous resorts known throughout the globe, this luxurious haven is set at 1850 metres. Val d’lsere dates back to the 13th Century and is the perfect place if seeking history, charm, luxury, advanced skiing and high-end shops.

As part of Espace Killy, Val d’lsere provides over 300km of both challenging and more easy-going terrain appealing to all skiers. La Face de Bellevarde is a world-renowned black run which entices keen skiers to attempt the 950m drop season-on-season.

For the non-skiers, the village has enough charm to have you yearning to stay longer. A historical church dating back to the 17th century and cobbled streets lined with breathtaking chalets will leave one feeling as though they are walking in a fairytale. Val d’lsere is also home to a large number of Michelin star restaurants and famous après bars such as La Folie Douce and Cocorico.

One of the many recent updates in the resort this year already, includes the Vallon Gondola upgrade. This gondola will now take up to 10 skiers all the way up to the Pisaillas Glacier in just 6.5 minutes! This will reduce the queues and allow more time on the slopes. Adding on to this, 30 old support pylons have been deconstructed making the slopes just even more beautiful than before.

2025 is also seeing guided heli-skiing experiences close to the Italian border in Le Fornet. This will include ski tours into Italy, and then the opportunity to get a helicopter back into France. (Heli skiing is still not technically allowed in France).

We always have clients approaching us about buying property in Val d’lsere, and fortunately with the high demand, comes high supply. Two new exceptional developments receiving high interest include Les Jardins de Juliette and Les Chalets du Chevril, and even more are on the horizon.

For those with higher budgets, the prices of these developments start at EUR 1,980,000 for a two bed, with prices rising to EUR 9,963,600 for a five bed. Both projects offer outstanding interiors, exterior places with the most extraordinary views and top-quality materials, fittings and designs. If spa facilities are included in your criteria, Chalets du Chevril would be the best choice.

Les 2 Alpes

The other high-flyer is Les Deux Alpes. Although they are relatively similar when it comes to altitude and popularity, Les Deux Alpes is significantly cheaper than Val d’lsere and the village is more modern.

Les Deux Alpes is widely known and appreciated for its breathtaking glacier and snow-sure, year-round skiing. The slopes are thrilling and like Val d’lsere, attracts the top skiers. The village also has a large après scene with famous locations such as Pano Bar and L’Avalanche Club but offers less fancy shops and restaurants.

Les Deux Alpes is most notably known for being home to the world’s longest vertical drop – 2300m! Within the descent is the adrenaline-filled black run Super Diable with a gradient of around 75%. It is also home to Mont-de-Lans Glacier which is Europe’s largest skiable glacier (which even has slopes allowing all levels to ski on it).

Similarly to Val d’lere, the resort is constantly developing with exciting updates. This year the new Jandri Express gondola has improved in both infrastructure and timing. The new gondola is now wind resistant (meaning more ski days even when it’s a little stormy) and the most impressive of all – improved timing. The gondola used to take 40 minutes to reach the glacier and has more than halved by now taking just 17 minutes.

Also home to Europe’s largest snow park, the resort has welcomed a new Olympic size half pipe for top international athletes to train in for the 2026 winter Olympics. Very few resorts provide Olympic half pipes, making the resort even more special.

Our properties in Les Deux Alpes have also been season favourites, including the remarkable Le Télémark. This development offers between 1 – 4 bedrooms with prices starting at just EUR 315,000. The ski in, ski out apartments and penthouses feature fully equipped kitchens, have superior interiors and a gym. Another popular snow front development is L'Emparis which offers studios for EUR 228,000 as well as up to 3-beds. L’Emparis is positioned in a more serene part of the village offering tranquillity and true mountain bliss.

A top non-negotiable for some clients is a high resort with glacier skiing, a ‘high-flying’ resort and these two resorts absolutely take the lead. To find out more about the properties and villages, or for advice on other places in the Alps, don’t hesitate to get in touch.
