Megève was developed in the 1920s by the Rothschild family as France’s answer to St. Moritz, and it is still one of the jewels of the Alps. It’s back on our recommended list this winter, both for buyers looking at property for sale in Megève and for anyone who wants to profiter from the best of the French Alps.
Megève has long been one of the most sought-after addresses in the mountains, known for its luxury and village charm. It has some of the best views, amenities, activities and art de vivre anywhere in the Alps. That status got a fresh boost when the resort appeared in the alpine episode of Emily in Paris, Netflix’s French–Hollywood love affair.
Before you browse the properties we’ve listed here recently, let’s look at why Megève could be the place for your next winter home.
Luxury Living in Megève: Restaurants, Shops and Le Palais
Megève has everything a top ski resort should. There’s a high concentration of excellent restaurants, including Michelin-starred tables, and boutiques such as Hermès and Moncler. Then there’s Le Palais, the largest leisure complexe in the Alps. It has a large spa, sports facilities including a climbing wall, a library and a theatre, so sport, wellness and community life all sit under one roof.

The Megève Ski Area: 300km+ of Tree-Lined Pistes
The slopes are just as impressive. Megève gives access to more than 300km of pistes across its connected ski areas, Évasion Mont-Blanc and Les Portes du Mont-Blanc. Most of the runs suit beginners and intermediates, with some of the most picturesque tree-lined runs in the Alps, and for steeper, more technical terrain, Chamonix is around 30 minutes away. Après-ski here means wine bars, jazz lounges and chalet terraces rather than the loud party scene you find in other resorts. It’s the ideal setting for a ski season that puts leisure first.

Year-Round Activities: Why Megève Isn’t Just a Ski Investment
Megève isn’t only a winter investment. With miles of alpine terrain and several lifts running in summer, there’s something to do all year, from gentle hikes to proper adrenaline.
Cycling: Megève is renowned for both road and mountain biking. The 2027 UCI Cycling World Championships will pass through the area, and the nearby MB Race is billed as the world’s toughest one-day mountain bike race.

Using the landscape: Aside from beautiful golf courses and hiking trails, you can also use the landscape to go canyoning down natural water slides in the local gorges, as well as rock climbing and paragliding.
Winter: The village keeps its distinctive charm. Chalets are built in the style of traditional Savoyard farmhouses, and horse-drawn carriages pass through the village centre. You can also explore off-piste by dog sled or take a private scenic flight by plane or helicopter. On rest days there are museums, cinemas and curated exhibitions, a cultural offer most alpine villages can’t match.
