Obergurgl Resort Info
Lovely upmarket village with lots of shopping and entertainment and famous for it’s fantastic snow fall record.
Expert's Opinion
″Obergurgl is exactly the sort of cute, compact resort that the Austrian Alps are known for. The skiing it shares with neighbouring Hochgurgl is varied enough to entertain even the strongest skiers, and there are a number of unpisted areas that open when the weather is good enough. This is one of the classier resorts around, with luxury ski shops, some lovely traditional restaurants and lively bars like the Nederhutte.″
Obergurgl Resort
Obergurgl is a beautiful Austrian village in one of the highest points in the Tyrol province of Austria. Famous for its snowfall record and high altitude slopes, the resort sits at 1930m with skiing up to 3028m. Obergurgl is often referred to as 'The Diamond in the Alps', and has a growing reputation for its charming village, high quality shops and snow sure skiing.
Although the resort is smaller than some of the other famous Austrian ski towns, Obergurgl has plenty of lively bars and restaurants, with a classy apres ski scene. This was one of the first villages to introduce pedestrian zones, and ban night traffic, ensuring that visitors and residents alike can enjoy the peaceful Alpine setting.
Obergurgl is connected via panorama gondola to Hochgurgl, and shares a valley with Solden. The resort is only an hour and 45 minutes from Innsbruck airport, making this an easy weekend destination, while Salzburg and Munich airports are both just over three hours away.

With 110km of pistes between them, Obergurgl and Hochgurgl offer some of the most snow sure skiing in Austria. The area is largely red slopes, with 55km in total. Beginners can enjoy the 35km of blue runs, while there are 20km of black runs and some excellent off piste for expert skiers. Obergurgl is home to an excellent snow park, and a number of great cross country trails.
The ski area has 24 ultra-modern lifts, including the Rosskarbahn up to the Festkogel peak, where there is night skiing each Tuesday evening. Skiers and snowboarders can enjoy an evening in a mountain hut, before skiing the floodlit slope home and watching the Obergurgl ski school's torchlit descent. Obergurgl is home to a great kids ski area, and progression for improving skiers is good.
During the spring, Obergurgl is a superb place for ski touring, with plenty of high powder fields that are worth skinning uphill to enjoy. The constant improvements being made on the lift system, the charming high Alpine town and the convenient location ensure the resort has a loyal following that return year after year.

Although Obergurgl is a traditional resort, there are very few full chalets for sale whether as investments or as second homes. There are, however, currently a number of apartments that will make excellent investment opportunities; the bulk of them come with rental management services and access to spa and wellness areas, while some also boast full hotel facilities.
