The Village

Andermatt is a historic mountain village in the Canton Uri, dating back to 1290 AD.

Formerly a Swiss Army garrison, Andermatt is now owned by the prestigious Vail Resorts and is located on the broad floor of the Valley Urseren, with mountain peaks rising on all sides. Whether you arrive by car or train, the dramatic landscapes en route (the Gotthard Pass, the Furka Pass & the Devil's Bridge) are a key part of the Andermatt experience.

The easiest access is by train from Zurich as the train station is directly in the resort.

The old village of Andermatt is characterised by the river and the historic centre which has pastel-coloured buildings with shutters and flags draped over the balconies.

The Chedi hotel sits in the centre of the village and the new hotels and apartments are to the north west alongside the golf course.

When completed there will be 42 new apartment buildings, each designed by a different architect, six new 4 & 5 star hotels, and 28 new chalets on the golf course.
This visionary development project is well underway and the old army town has already been transformed in to a world class ski resort.

The Skiing

The three ski areas of Andermatt, Sedrun and Disentis are now fully linked to provide over 180 km of pisted slopes, plus some excellent and easily accessible freeride terrain and an extensive network of cross-country trails. In 2022 Vail Resorts Inc. became the majority shareholder in the lift company as confirmation that Andermatt is now a world-renowned resort.

The area has one of the best snow records in the Alps. Andermatt has fast, modern lifts with additional investment in new lifts and upgrades year on year.

Accessed by a two-stage cable car at the southern end of the village, Gemsstock at 2961m offers some superb red and black slopes and is a paradise for freeriders. This is a sector ideally suited to confident skiers seeking a thrill - the north-facing bowl beneath the top cable car is one of the highlights with a long and exhilarating 900m vertical. There are also some snow-sure red runs that any intermediate can enjoy.

The majority of the pisted skiing, is to the north-east of the village in the Gütsch-Oberalp-Sedrun sector which offers sunny, scenic slopes for casual skiers and families .

The Schneehüenerstock-Express lift gives fast access to a choice of reds and blues from the peak at 2600m. The "Gütsch-Express" train links the entire area from Andermatt to Disentis.  A particular highlight is the Apres-Ski-Zug train with onboard bar and DJ - a perfect way to conclude a day on the slopes.

Summer

There are plenty of activities to enjoy in this area during the summer months; 500km of hiking trails and 250km biking trails. Fishing, gold-panning, lake swims and rock-climbing are also popular, and with the Mammut Alpine School you can discover some of the fixed rope routes across the Alps.

The Furka Steam Railway and the Sasso San Gottardo - a recently declassified Swiss Army fortress burrowed within the mountains alongside the Saint Gotthard Pass - add to the variety of options in the region make for excellent day trips but the key summer attraction in Andermatt is the 72 par championship golf course.

The 18 hole Andermatt Swiss Alps Golf Course adjoins the town so is easily accessible. In 2017, it was voted the best golf course in Switzerland. In addition there are three 9-hole courses (at Realp, Sedrun and Obergestlen). Andermatt is one of the best regions in the Alps for winter sports fans who share a passion for golf.
