The Daily Telegraph: How to buy an Alpine home with the best skiing, at a lower price
31 Oct, 2016 by Investors In Property
In an article featured in this weekend's Daily Telegraph, our Swiss Property Expert, Simon Malster, discusses La Tzoumaz as a value for money alternative to the "sky-high" prices in Verbier.
"This year buyers are seeking resorts that are investing in infrastructure, but are also hunting for value. Those looking in the French Alps will welcome the drop in September of the interest rate in France to a 100-year low," says Telegraph journalist Liz Rowlinson. "But for further affordability, buyers need to think laterally, and swap the ritzy areas for “backdoor” resorts: those that share slopes with the big-name towns – but not their big prices."
La Tzoumaz is a perfect example of a backdoor resort, Simon suggests; a compact resort where property prices are a third of those in Verbier. “It’s on the other side of the mountain but you access the entire Verbier ski area,” he says.

One of the best properties available in La Tzoumaz is La Couronne, "a ski-in, ski-out chalet at Sfr1.85 million (£1.5 million) that would be worth more than Sfr5 million in Verbier," and has its own, private ski lift.
Also highlighted in the article is the Residence Sur la Piste, a new development in La Tzoumaz, where studios start at Sfr225,000. The first phase of this development, the Chalet Delice apartments, are available now and offer a fantastic location directly on the ski piste above the resort.

But La Tzoumaz isn't the only great value "backdoor" resort.
In Austria, Warth am Arlberg boasts several substantial and luxurious newbuild developements, such as the Alpen Spa Residences, while in France Combloux and Les Menuires offer great alternatives to Megeve and Meribel.

The d'Arbon Village in Combloux, in particular, is a great opportunity to own a newbuild apartment in the Megeve area with facilities including a wellness with sauna, steam room, swimming pool and spa and a full concierge service.
